Too Much Screen Time

Scientific studies are finally telling us what we’ve suspected for years: Too much TV or computer time isn’t good for kids, even though they love it. But as kids spend more and more time in front of TVs, computers, and hand-held electronics, many are failing to develop important skills they will need to be successful in school.

The more time kids spend in front of a screen, the more likely they will have attention problems in school. This certainly makes it hard to learn.

Too much screen time has also been linked to communication problems, social difficulties, and obesity. It also seems to rob children of the ability to visualize on their own, when away from a screen. And children who have a hard time visualizing have trouble comprehending what they read.

That’s why we created the Movies in My Mind listening series. We’re dedicated to helping kids get back to listening again. We want them to learn to focus on what they hear, not just what they see. And we want them to learn to create their own images in their minds … their own movies in their minds. That way, as they grow, they will better understand what they read and hear. After all, reading and listening are vital to school success.
